French Muslims anxious after attack leads to miscarriage

muslim_women_france

Two years after France passed its so-called “anti-burqa law”, the nation’s Muslim community is rallying around a woman who was beaten by fascists so severely that she suffered a miscarriage. Her attackers tried to pull off her head covering, but it was only a commonplace hejab, and not a banned burqa or niquab. It follows another incident, in the same Parisian suburb, where French police resorted to using tear gas after a group of sympathizers tried to stop a burqa-wearing woman from getting arrested.

Some Muslims at her press conference sharply criticized the French media for using unsubstantiated anonymous sources which cast doubt on the victim’s story. They also asked why the victim herself had not interviewed by any French press. Press TV, however, interviewed the victim shortly after the attack. They also asked why the French coverage was skewed towards the sensational aspects of the crime, instead of relating them to the larger issues of repeated attacks and why they continue to take place.

French politicians have condemned the incident, but many say it’s just empty talk. One Muslim activist covered a baby doll with blood to illustrate the real-life consequences of the state’s repeated failure to protect Muslim women from ethnic violence.

There’s little doubt that fascist groups are rising in popularity. The far-right National Front recently topped the Socialists in a first-round by-election to replace a disgraced Socialist cabinet member. Besides widespread perceptions of corruption, voters said that at least the extreme right is providing an alternative to the poverty-inducing economic austerity of the two mainstream parties.

Many demonstrators say that it’s difficult to imagine that French politicians couldn’t foresee that the anti-burqa law could empower some right-wingers to become violent vigilantes. Many French Muslims insist that, in order to prevent more violence against women, the government should take the radical step of repealing the anti-burqa law.

Topless Tunisian protester at the center of controversy

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Conflicting reports on the whereabouts of a young Tunisian woman have circulated following her participation in the “sextremist” collective, Femen. On March 11, Amina Tyler, a 19 year-old Tunisian posed for Femen. Marking the organisation’s presence in the North African country, Tyler posed semi-nude with the words “My body belongs to me, it is not the source of anyone’s honour” written across her torso.

Adel Almi, leader of the conservative religious organisation Moderate Associate for Awareness and Reform, told Assabah News that her actions deserved 80-100 lashes, but may also warrant death by stoning. Following his comments, Femen representatives told Tunisian and international media that they had lost contact with Tyler and feared her missing.

The Girl Who started all this..

The Girl Who started all this..

Femen France: After we received this information, Femen activists tried to contact the young Tunisian to no avail. Her phone has been off. We fear for her life.

Femen representatives added that they were told Tyler had been taken to a psychiatric ward, a detail picked up by several media outlets including France 24 and PolicyMic.

In an interview with Tunisia Live, Tyler’s lawyer, Bouchra Bel Haj Hmida, denied those claims:

She is not missing and “has never been in a psychiatric facility,” Bel Haj Hmida told Tunisia Live, contradicting reports that surfaced last week and have been widely circulated on the internet.

Femen France: We still do not know where to find Amina. We hope that she is alive and well. We are committed, we show our support through our topless photos and we deliver a clear message to the Islamists: we will seek her out and we will continue to protest! We will not let them oppress women’s bodies by hiding and locking them!

Still, some take issue with Tyler’s form of protest, and Femen’s message altogether. @YaminZakaria responded to the spectacle:
On Facebook, Ahmed Medien wondered why so much media attention has been given to Tyler and not the accomplishments of other Tunisian women:
It takes one topless Tunisian young lady to make the buzz now in Huffington Posts, now, worldwide. Another Tunisian lady just won the chemistry worldwide Olympiad and was awarded the title of best innovator of the year 2013.

Muslim women have launched a campaign to send a message to “sextremist” collective Femen. “Muslimah Pride Daywas organized in response to Femen’s self-declared “Topless Jihad Day”, a day of topless protests around the world to support Tunisian Femen activist Amina Tyler.

Turkey lifts headscarf ban in religious schools to secularists’ dismay

New rules approved Tuesday that allow girls to wear headscarves in religious schools — and during Koran lessons in others — is a move that will “end in chadors,” critics say.
ISTANBUL — Turkey has lifted a ban on female students wearing headscarves in schools providing religious education, in a move drawing criticism from secularists who see it as fresh evidence of the government pushing an Islamic agenda.Education has been one of the main battlegrounds between religious conservatives, who form the bedrock of support for Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party, and secular opponents who accuse him of imposing Islamic values by stealth. Those secularist fears were fueled this year when Erdogan said his goal was to raise a “religious youth” and the AK Party, in power for the past decade, pushed through a reform of the education system which boosted the role of religious schools.Under the latest regulation, announced Tuesday and going into effect from the 2013-2014 academic year, pupils at regular schools will also be able to wear headscarves in Koran lessons.Erdogan said the reform, which also ends a requirement for pupils to wear uniform, was taken in response to public demand.”Let’s allow everyone to dress their child as they wish, according to their means,” he said at a news conference in Madrid Tuesday.

“These are all steps taken as a result of a demand.”

Rivalry between religious and secular elites is one of the major fault lines in Turkish public life.

Erdogan’s Islamist-rooted AK Party has tamed the influence of the military — the self-appointed guardians of secularism since the modern republic was founded in 1923 — over the past decade, but he denies an Islamist agenda.

Last month the military top brass attended a reception in the presidential palace alongside the headscarved wives of the president and prime minister, something that until recently would have been unthinkable.

DOGMA

The secularist newspaper Cumhuriyet said the latest reform was a step towards the Islamization of education.

“This will end with chadors,” a headline in the paper said.

The latest reform followed a law approved in March allowing “imam hatip” schools specializing in religious education combined with a modern curriculum to take children from the age of 11 instead of 15.

The Egitim-Sen education sector union was critical of the move on school uniforms and the headscarf.

“The changes in the clothing regulations are important in enabling us to see the intense degree to which the education system is being made religious,” the union said in a statement.

“Religious symbols which spread a religious lifestyle in schools and which will have a negative impact on the psychology of developing children should definitely not be used,” it said.

But others voiced support for the reform.

Gurkan Avcı, head of the Democratic Educators’ Union (DES), said it had removed a legacy of the Sept. 12, 1980, military coup by changing the dress code.

“We will not be able to rescue the education system from the perverse consequences of the oppression, rituals, dogma and thinking of the ‘cold war’ period until teachers and pupils are liberated,” he said.

Diam-French rapper stuns fans, makes first TV appearance wearing hijab

admin cmnts : She converted to Islam in late 2010,but we didn’t had any idea about this.i never saw this news before, anyways, lets read what happened .

or view at our channel in youtube

Amid a nationwide debate in France surrounding attitudes towards the Islamic veil, or hijab, a French rapper has surprised fans by announcing her conversion to Islam and choosing to wear a headscarf.

French rapper Mélanie Georgiades, known as Diam’s, made her first TV appearance with her new image.

Mélanie Georgiades, known as Diam’s, has gone through what onlookers have described as a “complete transformation” from an image she had prior to 2009.

Since 2009, Diam’s had been unusually absent from the mainstream rap scene, prompting more than three years of controversy over her whereabouts, despite making the odd public appearance with her scarf.
But recently the French rapper made her first television appearance with her new image.

Diam’s appeared in an exclusive TV interview with French TV station TF1, to talk about a past experience with drugs, including hallucinating narcotics, and being in a mental asylum until she discovered the “serenity of Islam.” The rapper said the religion was introduced to her by coincidence, when she saw a Muslim friend praying.

Diam’s, said she has been married for over a year and is a now a new mother, moving far away from her drug-relate past.

In her TV interview she said her “conversion to Islam was the result of a personal conviction, after understanding the religion and reading the Holy Quran.”

When asked about wearing the hijab in France, a country which has banned the niqab, she said: “I believe that I live in a tolerant society, and I don’t feel hurt by criticism, but by insults and stereotyping and ready-made judgments.”

French rapper Mélanie Georgiades, known as Diam’s, made her first TV appearance with her new image.

Asked by her host about why she is wearing a hijab while many Muslim women don’t wear it, and don’t find it to be a religious obligation, she answered: “I see it as a divine order or a divine advice, this brings joy to my heart and for me this is enough.”

Stardom?

Diam’s said that by converting to Islam she gained comfort, adding that stardom doesn’t fit in with her life anymore, adding “this has warmed my heart, as I know now the purpose of my existence, and why am I here on Earth.”

Diam’s criticized the media which photographed her coming out of one of the mosques in France, wearing her Hijab and looking at her mobile, preceded by a man in a training suit, which many believed to be her husband.

Discussing how her life was like before her conversion to Islam, Diam’s said: “I was very famous and I had what every famous person looks for, but I was always crying bitterly alone at home, and this is what none of my fans had felt.”

She added: “I was heavily addicted to drugs, including hallucinating narcotics and was admitted in mental asylum to recover, but this was in vain until I heard one of my Muslim friends saying ‘I am going to pray for a while and will come back,’ so I told her that I want to pray as well.”

Recalling that moment, Diam’s said: “it was the first time that I touched the floor with head, and I had a strong feeling that I have never experienced before, and I believe now that kneeling in prayer, shouldn’t be done to anyone but Allah.

Islam, a religion of tolerance

Diam’s said that she moved to Mauritius to read the Quran, and have a better understanding of Islam, discovering during her retreat, the tolerance of Islam.

When asked by her host about her views on Islam, and those who commit all the murders and atrocities pretending to be doing it in the name of religion, she answered: “I think we should differentiate between the ignorant and the knowledgeable, and the ignorant should not speak about what he doesn’t know, Islam does not allow murdering innocent victims the way we see it nowadays.”

Paris: police arrest four Muslim women

The scene, which was filmed by journalists from Le Parisien, a French daily newspaper covering both international and national news, took place at the Trocadéro, a square that stands across the river from the Eiffel Tower. The four women, including one wearing a headscarf, were checked for IDs before being escorted out of the square by dozens of police officers.

In the video one of the women says: “One of us is wearing a headscarf and policemen have just checked our IDs, there is no problem, but we have been asked to leave the square.”

“We were doing some sightseeing as our uncle is visiting us, and this is what happens,” another one adds. “Now we are forced to follow them so we can be interrogated,” she continues as the four women are being shoved by policemen.

At the end of the video, another woman, accompanied with an elderly woman wearing a scarf, says they were also banned from entering the square.

On Saturday dozens of police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure ahead of an anti-Islam film protest banned by the French authorities. Overall 50 people were arrested that day, including the four women in the video.
