Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan leaves for Hajj pilgrimage with mother

Aamir Khan left for Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Hajj pilgrimage with mother Zeenat Hussain from Mumbai on Friday evening.

Despite his busy work schedule and professional commitments, Aamir has taken out time for the fortnight-long holy trip in order to keep a promise he made to his mother.

He left for Mecca dressed as a Hajji in a direct flight that departed from Mumbai at 6.30 pm on Friday, along with his mother, eight other relatives and a Maulvi. This is Aamir’s first Hajj trip.

The superstar arrived in Mumbai on Thursday from Chicago, where he was busy wrapping up the first schedule of his forthcoming biggie, Dhoom 3, co-starring Katrina Kaif.

Aamir is scheduled to return from the pilgrimage on November 3, after which he will get busy with the pre-release promotions of his next film, Talaash. Reema Kagti’s psychological crime thriller Talaash is slated for a November 30 release, which means Aamir will straightaway get into the hectic grind of promotional activity on returning from his pilgrimage.

“Aamir has hardly had time to rest since returning from Chicago on Thursday. He launched the music of Talaash on Friday and then left for Mecca the same evening. As soon as he returns, he will get going with promoting the film along with his co-stars Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor,” a source said.

Apart from visiting Mecca, Aamir and his family members will also visit the nearby city of Medina, burial place of the Prophet Muhammad. The group will reportedly stay at the Al Massa in Mecca and at the Elaf Taiba in Medina, hotels that are within a walking distance from the holy sites.

Supplication for the blessed hajj

Supplication for the Blessed Hajj

Supplication for the Blessed Hajj

Allah has blessed us with Hajj season, and bestowed His favor upon us with the performance of different acts of worship and obedience to Him. We ask Allah to accept from those who made Hajj this year as well as from all the other Muslims who asked for His forgiveness during the foregoing blessed days.

Among the good deeds we have done during Hajj days and which we should always do is supplication. Supplication is one of the most beneficial types of healing; it is the enemy of illness and affliction — repressing them and treating them, preventing their occurrence, removing them or at least alleviating them. Supplication is the weapon of the believer, as it is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“Supplication is the weapon of the believer, the pillar of the religion, and the light of the heaven and earth” (Al-Hakim).

Supplication is the sign of worship, and Allah loves that His slaves should supplicate to Him. He says in a hadithqudsi,

“O My slaves! You are all astray except him that I guide, so seek for My guidance, I will guide you. O My slaves! You are all hungry except him whom I feed, so seek for provision from Me, I will feed you” (Muslim).

Allah tests His slaves with trials that drive them to supplicate to Him, and this is in itself a blessing. Total reliance on Allah is the actual wealth, the essence of worship, and the utmost goal. Allah loves from His servants that they ask Him, turn towards Him, and manifest their destitution and lowliness in front of Him. Allah has made it a duty upon Himself not to send His servants back disappointed and empty-handed, as His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us:

“There is not a Muslim upon the earth that calls to Allah with a supplication except that Allah gives it to him or He removes some evil of equal proportion from him, so long as he doesn’t supplicate for something sinful or to sever family ties.” So a man among the people said, “What if we ask numerous requests?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Allah isakthar (able to respond to numerous requests).” (At-Tirmidhi)

Supplication is also a characteristic of the prophets and the chosen ones. Allah says:

{Verily, they used to hasten to do good deeds and they used to call on Us with hope and fear and used to humble themselves before Us.} (Al-Anbiya’ 21:90).

We should be patient with whatever happens to us, for there is a relief with every difficulty, and we should not stop supplicating. We should always praise our Lord and thank Him for all His mercies. Allah says:

{Invoke Me, I will respond to your invocation. Verily, those who scorn My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation}(Ghafir 40:60).

Also, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“Whoever does not ask from Allah, He becomes angry at him” (Al-Bukhari and Ahmad).

The effects of supplication can never be over-emphasized. Prophets Nuh, Yunus, Ibrahim, Musa, Sulayman and Dawud (peace be upon them all) all invoked their Lord and He answered their invocations. He is the One Who cured Prophet Ayyub (peace and blessings be upon him) of his ailment when he supplicated to Him. Allah gave Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) victory over the disbelievers in the Battle of Badr in spite of the numerical inferiority of the Muslim army.

O you oppressed person! When all doors are closed against you, go to Allah, Whose door is never closed against the weak and the oppressed. O fathers! Supplicate for your children, for your invocations for them are accepted.

It is through supplication that one becomes high-minded, contented, and respected. The more one increases in sincerity, the more one’s prayers are answered. One should not be hasty and impatient. If the answer is delayed or slow in coming, one should not become frustrated and give up supplicating. This person is like the one who sows a seed or plants a flower, watering it and tending to it, then when it is delayed in appearing or flowering he leaves it and neglects it. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessigns be upon him) said:

“The supplication of the servant will always be answered provided that he does not supplicate for something sinful or supplicate to sever the ties of kinship and provided that he is not impatient.” It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is impatience?” He (peace and blessigns be upon him) replied, “He says: ‘I have supplicated and supplicated but I have not received an answer’ then he becomes frustrated and leaves off supplicating” (Muslim).

Ibn Hajar said, “Every supplicant will have his prayer accepted and it is only the forms of acceptance that will vary; sometimes it is accepted in the form of what one really wants or it is accepted in the form of a substitute to it.”

The servants should combine in their supplication the presence of the heart and its being attentive and devoting solely to Allah. They should have fear and reverence in their heart, beseeching their Lord in a state of humility and submissiveness. They face the qiblah and in a state of purity, they raise their hands to Allah and begin by praising and extolling Him. Then they invoke peace and blessings upon Muhammad, His servant and Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). They precede mentioning their need by seeking forgiveness from Allah, and then they earnestly and sincerely make their request like one who is needy and impoverished, supplicating to Him out of hope and fear. They seek the means of getting close to Him by mentioning His names and attributes and making the religion sincerely for Him alone.

I would like to end my khutbah by supplicating to Allah to save the Muslims from their enemies and the danger around them. We ask Allah to remove the hardships, difficulties, and dangers from every Muslim. We ask Allah to spread peace and security in the whole world. May Allah accept our good deeds, forgive our faults and mistakes, and keep us on the straight path.

Islamic hajj pilgrimage starts, Oct. 25

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia has announced that the Islamic hajj pilgrimage, which attracts around 3 million Muslims worldwide each year, will begin on Thursday, Oct. 25.

The kingdom’s High Court, comprised of religious scholars who serve as judges, announced Tuesday that Eid al-Adha celebrations coinciding with the pilgrimage will start on Oct. 26.

Hajj is among the five pillars of Islam and is required of all able-bodied Muslims at least once in their lifetime.

Already some 1.4 million people from 160 countries have arrived in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia for hajj, which according to Islam traces the steps of prophets such as Muhammad, Abraham and Ishmael.

Hajj is a spiritual experience aimed at fostering closeness to God, the cleansing of sins and a sense of unity and equality among Muslims.

Tips to Maximize Hajj Benefits

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In order for Hajj to be virtuous and accepted by Almighty Allah, the person who is intending to perform Hajj should be keen on preparing himself or herself for this blessed journey. He or she should be well-informed about the rites of Hajj and should be keen to follow them in the most appropriate way.

In his response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states,

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is the peak and culmination of the acts of worship. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever performs the rites of Hajj, while having refrained from acts of lewdness, obscenity and wrangling, will return home like a new born (i.e., free from all sins).” He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said, “A virtuous Hajj entails no other reward than Paradise.”

The question,: What is meant by a virtuous Hajj?

The answer is not hard to find when we closely peruse the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as well as the wise instructions of the scholars and imams.

First of all, a virtuous Hajj is that which fulfills two important conditions:

One, it must be done in accordance with the prescribed way, and

Two,it must be done with a sincere intention to please Allah, the most Exalted and Glorious.

In order to fulfill the first condition, while performing Hajj, the Muslim must take care to conform to the form and manner of Hajj as taught by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who reminded us during his farewell Hajj, “Learn your Hajj rites from me.”

It is not difficult to learn the correct form of Hajj: It can be done either by following the teachings of any of the acceptable Schools of Jurisprudence, or by close study of the Qur’an and Sunnah under a qualified teacher. By failing to do so, the person will not fulfill the Hajj rites as prescribed by Almighty Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), for it is important to remember that in acts of worship, we must never mix our personal opinions with religion.

Once a person has learned the basics of Hajj, it is also important for him—whenever he/she faces issues that are not clear—to seek the opinion of those who have been endowed with knowledge. The Muslim must never act based solely on his/her own personal opinions, without sufficient knowledge.

Coming to the issue of sound intention, it is important to know that while the form of Hajj is important, equally, if not more important is the spirit of Hajj. If a person is not keen to guard the spirit of Hajj, it becomes nothing more than empty rituals devoid of any deep meaning. It is only by diligently preserving the spirit of Hajj that the Muslim can hope to gain the maximum benefits from performing it.

With this purpose in mind, let us list some of the most important points to keep in mind before embarking on the Hajj journey as well as during the course of Hajj.

1) The Muslim who is planning to undertake Hajj should make sure that the fare and expenses of Hajj have been earned through lawful sources of income, free from all taints of haram.A Hajj funded through unlawful means merits no reward.

2) It is equally important to make sure that he undertakes the journey in as clean a state as possible. In order to achieve this, the Muslim should pay off his debts, seek forgiveness from those whom he may have offended or hurt, and reconcile with those who have strained relations. While it is important to reconcile with everyone, it is even more crucial to reconcile with his own close blood relations such as parents, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts, from both the paternal and maternal sides of the family. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “One who severs blood relations cannot hope to enter Paradise.”Therefore, by failing to make up with his blood relations prior to performing Hajj, he is depriving himself of the true rewards of Hajj.

3) The Muslim who is leaving behind dependents must ensure that they are provided for and taken care of, during his absence.

4) The Muslim should leave a will stating his obligations and liabilities towards others and how to discharge of them in case of being unable to return.

5) It is a true sign of piety to advise his family members who are left behind to be mindful of Almighty Allah and to observe the path of righteousness.

6) The Muslim should also try as much as possible to travel in the company of those who are knowledgeable and pious. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that a Muslim should take care of the company he keeps as they have either a beneficial or harmful influence on him. By keeping the company of the righteous, the Muslim can hope to be inspired and enlightened both spiritually and morally, thus, hoping to reap the full benefits of Hajj.

7) The Muslim should also be diligent in the performance of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) before, during and after returning from Hajj. There are prescribed du`aa’ to be recited before and during the journey as well as while performing the various rites of Hajj. Moreover, the Muslim should also try to make his tongue and heart always supple with dhikr. He may be inspired to do this by remembering that dhikr of Allah is the true spirit of Hajj.

8) The Muslim can never exaggerate the importance of nurturing patience and tolerance both during the journey as well as while performing the rites of Hajj. Doing everything he can to help others, or at least sparing others of his harm should be the consistent policy to follow.

9) Finally, the Muslim should fill his heart with true love for Almighty Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and perform all the rites of Hajj while being attentive to their inner meanings, with a sense of awe and reverence. Also, he should always remember the Prophetic saying, “Show mercy to others if you wish to receive Allah’s mercy.”

May Allah accept our acts of worship, and may He grace us with His vision on the Day Resurrection, amen.

Allah Almighty knows best.
