‘Necrophilia law’? Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet, kids. At least until there’s like, you know, some proof.

In Last Week of April a story spread across the internet  that Egypt’s Parliament was going to consider a law that would allow Egyptian men to have sex with their dead wives for up to six hours after they died.  The story began with an article in Al Ahram by Amru Abdul Samea, and was picked up by other media sites, and then by the blogsphere.  Many of us had reservations about the truth of this story, especially since Al Ahram is the government newspaper, and the only source for all of the subsequent stories was this Abdul Samea.

The Islamophobes jumped on this gleefully and used this news in there best ways…some Popular Islamophobes says :

— Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs posted an article Islamic Egypt Plans “Farewell Fornication Law” so Husbands can have sex with dead wives.

— Bare Naked Islam posted an article including disgusting photographs.

— Robert Spencer posted an article from Al Ahram with the intro “Here is yet more delightful evidence that Sharia is benign and completely compatible with U.S. Constitutional values, as we are constantly told.”

— Debbie Schlussel posted an article also with disgusting pictures and these comments from Schlussel “Yay–yet another “democratic” reform in Islamic Egypt, yet another reason to back up Barack Obama’s forcing out of Hosni Mubarak: the Muslim fanatics now running the country are enacting a new “farewell intercourse law,” which allows husbands to have sex with their dead wives up to six hours after their deaths. Very convenient: get rid of the wife in an honor killing, then have make-up sex right after, without any resistance.  …  Aren’t ya glad Egypt is “liberated”?!  On the other hand, this ain’t about Egypt or artificially created borders in the Arab world. It’s just Islam. Again, THIS. IS. ISLAM. “Religion of Peace.” And Religion of Sex with the Female Already-Rested In Peace.”

— Ann Barnhardt on the American Thinker posted an article that contained this disgusting passage:

“Necrophilia is not a joke.  It is real, and it is being openly ratified and encouraged by the satanic political cult of Islam.  A culture of people who are so far gone that they literally see nothing wrong with copulating with dead bodies is a culture that is capable of any evil imaginable, and cannot be stopped with any appeal to decency, morality, or shame.  What we are seeing in the Muslim world is the final descent of a human society into hell itself, and they will attempt to take as many others with them as they possibly can.  If these people are capable of “sexual pleasure” with not just corpses, but the corpse of the one person in the world who they should have loved and respected above all others, do you honestly believe that they would hesitate for a moment in merely pushing a button that launched nuclear warheads at Tel Aviv, or London, or New York? The Islamophobes are not concerned with facts, their purpose is to demean Muslims, and running with this story is an example of how successful they are with their base.  Here are a few comments from Pamela Geller’s readers:

— Necrophilia is Islamic, Muhammad practiced it so it perfectly moral behavior (for a Muslim, anyway). Please read the rebuttel of this sick claim “Muhammad had sex dead women”  from Christians is exposed . you can see how shamelessly they create lies against my beloved prophet pbuh.

— UNbelievable . . . but so easy to believe from these horrors, these sub-humans.  ONE MORE REASON to support Israel

— Necrophilia being a part of the death cult called pisslam doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

— Wow. That’s about as low as they can get. Depraved, abbherant behavior fitting of only the lowest form of life, or the most vile criminals is sanctioned as a part of their “religion.” How can anyone with even a half a brain cell firing think that behavior is okay?? It was hard to believe that there could be any truth to this story, however, not only Al Ahram, but then Al Arabiya had reported that Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) has appealed to the Islamist-dominated parliament not to approve two controversial laws on the minimum age of marriage and allowing a husband to have sex with his dead wife within six hours of her death according to a report in an Egyptian newspaper.   And, this supposed appeal from what seemed to be a real organization added some legitimacy to the possible validity of the story and outsource Islamophobes dont care to find out truth if anything is linked with Muslims.

But The Facts totally different :

Dan Murphy at the Christian Science Monitor was the first to say that the story of the Egyptian Parliament considering such a law is  without any substantiating evidence.

Egypt ‘necrophilia law’? Hooey, utter hooey.


Today, Egypt’s state-owned Al Ahram newspaper published an opinion piece by Amr Abdul Samea, a past stalwart supporter of the deposed Hosni Mubarak, that contained a bombshell: Egypt’s parliament is considering passing a law that would allow husbands to have sex with their wives after death.

It was soon mentioned in an English language version of Al-Arabiya and immediately started zipping around social-networking sites. By this afternoon it had set news sites and the rest of the Internet on fire. It has every thing: The yuck factor, “those creepy Muslims” factor, the lulz factor for those with a sick sense of humor. The non-fact-checked Daily Mail picked it up and reported it as fact. Then Andrew Sullivan, who has a highly influential blog but is frequently lax about fact-checking, gave it a boost with an uncritical take. The Huffington Post went there, too.

There’s of course one problem: The chances of any such piece of legislation being considered by the Egyptian parliament for a vote is zero. And the chance of it ever passing is less than that. In fact, color me highly skeptical that anyone is even trying to advance a piece of legislation like this through Egypt’s parliament. I’m willing to be proven wrong. It’s possible that there’s one or two lawmakers completely out of step with the rest of parliament. Maybe.

But extreme, not to mention inflammatory claims, need at minimum some evidence (and I’ve read my share of utter nonsense in Al Ahram over the years). The evidence right now? Zero.

There was a Moroccan cleric a few years back who apparently did issue a religious ruling saying that husbands remained married to their wives in the first six hours after death and, so, well, you know. But that guy is far, far out on the nutty fringe. How fringe? He also ruled that pregnant women can drink alcohol. Remember, alcohol is considered haram, forbidden, by the vast majority of the world’s Muslim scholars. Putting an unborn child at risk to get drunk? No, that’s just not what they do. Whatever the mainstream’s unpalatable beliefs (there are plenty from my perspective) this isn’t one of them.

It’s important to remember that the structure of the Muslim clergy is, by and large, like that of a number of Protestant Christian sects. Anyone can put out a shingle and declare themselves a preacher. The ones to pay attention to are the ones with large followings, or attachment to major institutions of Islamic learning. The preacher in Morocco is like the preacher in Florida who spent so much time and energy publicizing the burning of Qurans.

Stories like this are a reminder of the downside of the Internet. It makes fact-checking and monitoring easier. But the proliferation of aggregation sites, newsy blog sites, and the general erosion of editorial standards (and on-the-ground reporters to do the heavy lifting) also spreads silliness faster than it ever could before.

Reported Egypt Necrophilia Legislation Called ‘Hoax’ by Parliament

The age-old practice of banging your dead wife may be resurrected in Egypt, if members of the newly elected Islamist-dominated parliament have their say.

Or, so the Internet story goes.

Shocking reports circulated last week in Egyptian and Arab media outlets about a proposed “Farewell Intercourse” draft law, which allegedly stated that a husband would be able to legally fuck his partner’s decomposing body for up to six hours following her death.

But early this week Al Arabiya News reported that several members of the Egyptian parliament denied the rumors originally published last Tuesday by Egyptian state-run al-Ahram newspaper and Egyptian ON TV, which spread to the International media outlets.

The People’s Assembly Secretary General, Samy Mahran said, “I have never heard of anything in this regard.”

Islamist MP Mamdouh Ismail told Al Arabiya, “This is indecent and nonsense. The whole issue is unacceptable. It is even unacceptable to give any statement to media about this issue.”

Written records suggest the act of necrophilia dates back to Ancient Egypt. In order to discourage corpse intercourse, attractive dead chicks were left to decay for three to four days before being handed over to embalmers. Other societies in Southeast Asia, Central Europe and South America practiced necromancy to communicate with the deceased, and performed necrophilic deeds to consummate marriage after death, or to lay a virgin or soul to rest.

This week MP Hisham Ahmed Hanafi told the London-based Asharq al-Awsat, “Such reports are completely false and aim mainly to deform the image of the Egyptian parliament.”

MP Ashraf Agour of the Construction and Development Party also rebuffed the reports saying, “The issue has never been discussed in the parliament.”

And MP Amin Eskandar of al-Karama Party was also quoted, “These kinds of controversial laws are very dangerous and create a state of fear inside the community, the general atmosphere in the Egyptian parliament is vulnerable to such kinds of rumors.”

Analysts are claiming the necrophilia news piece was a hoax planted by supporters of Hosni Mubarak to defame Egyptian Islamists in power.

A Sister confused about Women rights

I am confused. All my life I interacted with others on the basis that I am a human being before being female and the worshipper woman of Allaah as much as I could, and that based on this, whoever does good, whether male or female, will be rewarded, and whoever commits sin will bear the burden of sin. But after I got married I was surprised by some rulings which treat me as if I am not human, because they treat me as if I am only an object for the enjoyment of the man, such as the fact that the angels will curse me if I refuse intimacy under any circumstances, at the time when he is under no such burden if he refuses to have intercourse with his wife even if he does that to cause her harm. So he gets the reward of doing charity if he has intercourse with her and enjoys intimacy with her, and she will not have any reward, even if she responds unwillingly. If he upsets me and humiliates me in front of people, I have to make up with him and try to please him, otherwise the angels will curse me. And of course I have no right to differ with his opinion or to argue with him, and if I lose my temper I am not forgiven. And, as you have stated in a fatwa, the reward for praying in congregation is only for men and not for women. Is this what Allaah has prescribed for us? Is this the fate of the Muslim woman if she does well and does what is required of her? If she avoids sin, she does not attain any virtue and if she falls short she is one of those who are cursed and expelled from the mercy of Allaah, and do I and the accursed Iblees become the same?  

I hope that you will pay attention to this question, because I am having doubts about my religion. If this is what Allaah has prescribed then we hear and obey and there is no power and no strength except with Allaah.

Praise be to Allaah.

We are shocked by what the sister has mentioned in her question, that is not part of the religion of Allaah but she is attributing to it, and her belief in rulings for which Allaah has not sent down any authority, such as her saying that “after I got married I was surprised by some rulings which treat me as if I am not human, because they treat me as if I am only an object for the enjoyment of the man”!

We will respond by noting the following points: 

Firstly: 

Allaah has honoured women greatly. He honours them as daughters, mothers and wives, and gives them rights and virtues, and enjoins good treatment in ways that are not shared by men in many cases.

Islam does not deny woman’s humanity. Rather it gives her her rights and holds her in high esteem. Women were treated as chattels and objects before Allaah honoured mankind with Islam. Women would be inherited like goods and chattels, and could be left suspended, being neither married nor divorced. A woman would have to wait for a year after her husband’s death, neither washing nor going out of the house, until birds and animals would die from her foul smell! Women were not allowed to inherit, let alone the fact that they could be buried alive, and many other things.

Then Islam came and forbade burying females alive; it regarded that as murder, which is a major sin. It forbade leaving women suspended as a result of vows or making one’s wife haraam by means of zihaar [a jaahili form of divorce in which the husband said to his wife, ‘You are to me as my mother’s back’; intimacy thus became forbidden, but the woman was not divorced completely and was not free to enter into a new marriage – Translator]. Islam gave women their share of inheritance, and stipulated an ‘iddah of four months and ten days after the death of her husband, during which she could bathe, change her clothes and see other women and her mahrams. It allowed women to buy, sell and own property, and encouraged them to seek knowledge and call people to Allaah. It commanded that women should be honoured as wives and as mothers, and made the mother’s rights three times greater than those of the father. And there are many other ways in which Islam honoured women, which we have no room to discuss in detail here; rather we just wanted to remind you of this. Please also see the answer to question no. 21010 for more information.

Secondly: 

The sister says in her question: “such as the fact that the angels will curse me if I refuse intimacy under any circumstances”.

This is not correct. Rather the angels do not curse the wife who refuses to share her husband’s bed unless she has no valid excuse. If she has an excuse – such as being sick, or menstruating, or bleeding following childbirth (nifaas), or observing an obligatory fast, then she is not cursed, rather her husband who calls her to bed is sinning if he insists on calling her, or forces her when he knows of her situation.

In question no. 33597 of this site it says:

A woman does not have the right to refuse her husband, rather she must respond to his request every time he calls her, so long as that will not harm her or keep her from doing something that is obligatory.

In question no. 9602 it says:

Ibn Hazm said:

It is obligatory on slave women and free women alike not to refuse their masters or husbands if they call them, so long as the woman who is called is not menstruating or sick in such a way that intercourse will be harmful to her, or observing an obligatory fast. If she refuses with no excuse, then she is cursed. 

Al-Muhalla, 10/40

This curse is limited to cases where the husband remains angry with her all night. But if he calls her and she refuses, then he foregoes his right, then she is not cursed.

Thirdly: 

The sister says in her question, “at the time when he is under no such burden if he refuses to have intercourse with his wife even if he does that to cause her harm.” This also is not correct. Islam forbids harming others, which includes a husband harming his wife by preventing her from breastfeeding her child, or denying her her right to intercourse and pleasure.

It says in the answer to question no. 10680 – in the context of discussing the wife’s rights over her husband:

Not harming one’s wife. 

This is one of the basic principles of Islam. Because harming others is haraam in the case of strangers, it is even more so in the case of harming one’s wife.

It was narrated from ‘Ubaadah ibn al-Saamit that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ruled, “There should be no harming nor reciprocating harm.”  (Narrated by Ibn Maajah,, 2340)

This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Imaam Ahmad, al-Haakim, Ibn al-Salaah and others. See Khalaasat al-Badr al-Muneer, 2/438.

It says in the answer to question no. 5971:

It is not permissible for a man to forsake his wife and thus harm her, except in the case of nushooz (rebellion) and disobedience. But he is not committing a sin if he does not lie with her without intending to harm her, because the need is his and depends on his desire and he cannot control his desire at will. If he forsakes her, then he is a sinner because there should be no harming or reciprocating harm. And Allaah knows best.

Fourthly: 

The sister says in her question, “So he gets the reward of doing charity if he has intercourse with her and enjoys intimacy with her, and she will not have any reward, even if she responds unwillingly”

This is also not correct. Rather the wife will be rewarded for intercourse in two ways:

1 – Because she is the twin half of man in rulings and rewards, except those where an exception is stated in the texts. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So their Lord accepted of them (their supplication and answered them), Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female. You are (members) one of another, so those who emigrated and were driven out from their homes, and suffered harm in My Cause, and who fought, and were killed (in My Cause), verily, I will expiate from them their evil deeds and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise); a reward from Allaah, and with Allaah is the best of rewards”  [Aal ‘Imraan 3:195]

2 – It is the cause of the husband being rewarded, and whoever is the cause of another person being rewarded will share in the reward without that detracting from his or her reward in the slightest.

It was narrated from Abu Dharr that some people from among the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “O Messenger of Allaah, the rich people will get more reward. They pray as we pray, and they fast as we fast, but they give in charity from their excess wealth.” He said, “Has not Allaah given you things with which you can give charity? Every tasbeehah (saying ‘Subhaan Allaah (Glory be to Allaah)’) is a charity. Every Takbeerah (saying ‘Allaahu akbar (Allaah is Most Great)’) is a charity. Every Tahmeedah (saying ‘al-hamdu-Lillaah (praise be to Allaah)’ is a charity. Every Tahleelah (saying ‘Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (there is no god but Allaah)’) is a charity. Enjoining what is good is a charity. Forbidding what is evil is a charity. Having intercourse (with one’s wife) is a charity.” They said, “O Messenger of Allaah, if one of us fulfils his desire, is there reward in that?” He said, “Do you not see that if he does it in a haraam way he will have the burden of sin? So if he does it in a halaal way, he will have a reward for that.”

(Narrated by Muslim, 1006)

So the wife will be rewarded just as her husband will, just as she is sinning if she fulfils her desires in a way that is haraam, just as is the case with the husband.

Imaam al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“The phrase, ‘Having intercourse is a charity’ – the word bud’ (translated here as ‘having intercourse’) may mean intercourse, or it may refer to the private part itself…

This indicates that permissible actions may become acts of worship, if there is a sincere intention. Intercourse may be an act of worship if the intention behind it is to fulfil the rights of one’s wife, to treat her kindly as enjoined by Allaah, to seek a righteous child, to keep oneself or one’s wife chaste, to prevent both partners from looking towards or thinking of haraam things, and other good intentions

Fifthly: 

The sister says in her question: “If he upsets me and humiliates me in front of people, I have to make up with him and try to please him, otherwise the angels will curse me”.

This also is not correct. The curse applies in the case of a woman who refuses to come to her husband’s bed with no excuse, when her husband stays angry with her all night – as explained above –

But if the husband humiliates her, then he is undoubtedly sinning by doing that, and sharee’ah allows her to answer him back in a manner that befits his wrongdoing.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And indeed whosoever takes revenge after he has suffered wrong, for such there is no way (of blame) against them”  [al-Shoora 42:41]

i.e., there is no sin on them.   

The word man (whosoever) here is general in meaning and includes women too.

Or if she is patient in bearing harsh words and mistreatment, seeking reward with Allaah, she will earn a more complete and better reward.

So what he must do is to make up with her and try to please her, not the other way round. If a person does wrong, in order for his repentance to be complete he must try to please the one who has been wronged, with apologies and kind words.

Sixthly: 

The sister says: “And of course I have no right to differ with his opinion or to argue with him, and if I lose my temper I am not forgiven.”

This is not correct. It is permissible for a women to argue with her husband and to have a different opinion, but she does not have the right to refuse to do what he tells her to do – even if she objects to it – so long as he does not tell her to commit sin, because there is no obedience to anyone if it involves disobedience towards the Creator. This is part of the qiwaamah (role of protector and maintainer) that Allaah has given to the husband in return for the obligation to spend on his wife, protect her and take care of her. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means”  [al-Nisa’ 4:34]

It is narrated that the women of the Sahaabah used to argue and debate with them, and indeed this is the way in which the Mothers of the Believers [i.e., the Prophet’s wives] used to act with our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), as ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “We Quraysh used to control our women, but when we came to the Ansaar we found that they were a people who were controlled by their women. So our women started to adopt the ways of the Ansaari women. I got angry with my wife and she argued with me and I did not like her arguing with me. She said, ‘Why do you object to me arguing with you? By Allaah, the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) argue with him…’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4895; Muslim, 1479.

Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said – discussing the lessons to be learned from this hadeeth –

“This indicates that being harsh with women is something blameworthy, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) adopted the way of the Ansaar with their women and forsook the way of his people.” 

Fath al-Baari, 9/291

With regard to what the sister mentioned about not being forgiven for any loss of temper or irritation on her part, this is not right at all, because there are some kinds of irritation for which a person will not be taken to task if he does not speak of them or act upon them, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah will forgive my ummah for that which crosses their minds, so long as they do not speak of it or act upon it.” And there are some which a person cannot help at all, because of intense anger, etc, which is beyond his or her control. At the end of Soorat al-Baqarah is mentioned the du’aa’ of the believers (interpretation of the meaning):

“Our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear”  [al-Baqarah 2:286]

and it is proven in the Sunnah that Allaah has answered this du’aa’ and said, “I will do that.” 

Seventhly: 

The sister says in her question: “as you have stated in a fatwa that the reward for praying in congregation is only for men and not for women”.

This also is not correct. Rather what we said – based on the ahaadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – is that the twenty-seven-fold reward is for men only, because they are the ones for whom prayer in congregation is enjoined, not women. Prayer is congregation is mustahabb for women, but we cannot be certain that women will get the twenty-seven-fold reward. It is permissible for women to attend the prayers in the mosque, and it is not permissible for men to forbid them to go. If they go and pray with (the men), they will have a share of the reward for praying in congregation.

Nevertheless, based on the saheeh ahaadeeth, if a woman prays in her house, she is doing that which is better for her than the reward for praying in the mosque.

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not prevent your women from coming to the mosques, although their houses are better for them.”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 567; Ahmad, 5445 – this version narrated by Ahmad.

‘Abd al-‘Azeem Abaadi said:

“Their houses are better for them” means that their praying in their houses is better for them than praying in the mosques, if only they knew that, but they do not know that, so they ask to go out to the mosques and think that the reward for going to the mosque is greater. The reason why their praying in their houses is better is because they are safer from fitnah (temptation). This ruling is even more necessary because of the tabarruj (wanton display) and adornment that have become prevalent among women.

‘Awn al-Ma’bood, 2/193.

Eighthly: 

The sister says in her question: “Is this the fate of the Muslim woman if she does well and does what is required of her? If she avoids sin, she does not attain any virtue and if she falls short she is one of those who are cursed and expelled from the mercy of Allaah, and do I and the accursed Iblees become the same?”!

This is thinking badly of Allaah, and what you say is not correct at all.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e., Paradise in the Hereafter).”  [al-Nahl 16:97]

“So their Lord accepted of them (their supplication and answered them), Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female. You are (members) one of another, so those who emigrated and were driven out from their homes, and suffered harm in My Cause, and who fought, and were killed (in My Cause), verily, I will expiate from them their evil deeds and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise); a reward from Allaah, and with Allaah is the best of rewards”  [Aal ‘Imraan 3:195]

“Verily, the Muslims (those who submit to Allaah in Islam) men and women, the believers men and women (who believe in Islamic Monotheism), the men and the women who are obedient (to Allaah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and the women who are patient (in performing all the duties which Allaah has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allaah has forbidden), the men and the women who are humble (before their Lord — Allaah), the men and the women who give Sadaqaat (i.e. Zakaah and alms), the men and the women who observe Sawm (fast) (the obligatory fasting during the month of Ramadaan, and the optional Nawafil fasting), the men and the women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the women who remember Allaah much with their hearts and tongues. Allaah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise)”  [al-Ahzaab 33:35]

With regard to the sister’s saying that if she falls short, she and Iblees would be the same, this is an exaggeration and there is no need for this; and it is an unacceptable comparison, because the curse of Allaah to Iblees is the eternal curse for which no repentance will be accepted, and it cannot be compared to the curse that applies in the case of a Muslim who believes in Allaah alone and submits to Him, but commits some major sins.

The clear verses and words that we have quoted are sufficient to explain the error of what you say. We ask Allaah to help you to understand Islam properly and to make you steadfast in adhering to goodness and true guidance.

At the end of this response, we should not forget to praise our sister for her frankness in asking about the doubts about some Islamic matters that the Shaytaan has thrown into her heart which, if she had kept them to herself, could have spoiled her religious commitment and generated waswaas (whispers from the Shaytaan) which could have caused a great deal of trouble in her life. Asking such questions dispels confusion and dispels doubt from one’s heart.

But when asking such questions, that should be done with more in a more appropriate manner, when asking about the wisdom of Allaah in what He prescribes, and the questioner should avoid everything that may be taken as objecting to the rulings, because the human mind is incapable of comprehending the greatness of Allaah’s wisdom and the vastness of His bounty towards His creation.

We also appreciate our sister’s acceptance of and submission to the laws of Allaah, as she says, “If this is what Allaah has prescribed then we hear and obey”. This is how the believer should be.

We ask Allaah to make us steadfast in adhering to His religion, and to guide us.

I saw two gold bangles on my hands. This disturbed me, but I was inspired to blow on them, so I blew on them and they flew away. I interpreted the two bangles as the two great liars who would appear after me, and one of them is al Ansee from Sanaa, and the other, Musaylimah, from Yamaamah” [Sahih of Muslim, vol 4 pp 1228-9 no 5650]

Based on: Prophet Joseph’s (Yusuf’s) dream “O Joseph!” (he said) “O man of truth! expound to us (the dream) of seven fat kind whom seven lean ones devour and of seven green ears of corn and (seven) others withered: that I may return to the people and that they may understand.” (Joseph) said: “For seven years shall ye diligently sow as is your wont: and the harvests that ye reap ye shall leave them in the ear except a little of which ye shall eat. “Then will come after that (period) seven dreadful (years) which will devour what ye shall have laid by in advance for them (all) except a little which ye shall have (specially) guarded.
“Then will come after that (period) a year in which the people will have abundant water and in which they will press (wine and oil).” [Surah Yusuf (12): 46-49]

Dreams in Islam about Cover, Clothing

Seeing clothing or a cover in a dream may refer to a husband or wife according to the metaphor ‘libaas’ (meaning: clothing/cover). [Sharh as Sunnah vol 12 p 221]

Ripe Dates – Islam dream

Dreaming of oneself eating ripe dates, acquiring them, etc. may signify Allah’s granting of provision, or a reminder to pay charity, or a reminder to avoid extravagance.
Based on: “It is He who produces gardens with trellises and without and dates and tilth with produce of all kinds and olives and pomegranates similar (in kind) and different (in variety): eat of their fruit in their season but render the dues that are proper on the day that the harvest is gathered. But waste not by excess: for Allah loveth not the wasters” [Surah al Anaam (6): 141]

Fresh Dates

In islamic dreams if one sees fresh Ibn Taab dates in a dream, it indicates that one’s practise of the religion will become better.

Based on: Anas ibn Malik (ra) quoted Prophet Muhammad saying “Last night I dreamt that we were in the house of Uqbah ibn Raafi and were brought some Ibn Taab fresh dates. I interpreted it as meaning that eminence in this world will be granted to us, a blessed hereafter, and that our religion has become good” [Sahih of Muslim, vol 4 p 1228 no 5647; Sunan of Abu Dawood, vol 3 p 1397 no 5007]

Door or Gate

In dream interpretation in Islam, seeing oneself enter a door or a gate in a dream, may refer to the successful completion of a project, or the winning of an argument. [Sharh as Sunnah vol 12 p 221]
Based on: Enter upon them though the gate. For when you enter victory will be yours” [Surah al Maidah (5): 23]

Egg

Seeing an egg in a dream may refer to a woman, according to the metaphor used in Quran referring to the maidens of paradise. [Sharh as Sunnah vol 12 p 220]
Based on: “And they will have with them chaste females with lowered, large, beautiful eyes; delicate and pure, like well preserved hidden eggs” [Surah as Saaffaat (37): 48-9]

Flowing Spring

A flowing spring in a dream indicates continued reward for one’s good deeds.
Based on: Kharijah ibn Zaid ibn Thabit (ra) narrated that, Um Al-’Ala an Ansari woman who had given the Pledge of allegiance to Allah’s Apostle said, (Uthman bin Maz’un came in our share when the Ansars drew lots to distribute the emigrants (to dwell) among themselves. He became sick and we looked after (nursed) him till he died. Then we shrouded him in his clothes. Allah’s Apostle came to us. I (addressing the dead body) said, ‘May Allah’s Mercy be on you, O Aba As-Sa’ib! I testify that Allah has honored you.’ The Prophet said, ‘How do you know that?’ I replied, ‘I do not know, by Allah.’ He said, ‘As for him, death has come to him and I wish him all good from Allah. By Allah, though I am Allah’s Apostle, I neither know what will happen to me, nor to you.( Um Al-’Ala said, “By Allah, I will never attest the righteousness of anybody after that.” She added, “Later I saw in a dream, a flowing spring for ‘Uthman. So I went to Allah’s Apostle and mentioned that to him. He said, ‘That is (the symbol of) his good deeds (the reward for) which is going on for him.’ [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 pp119-20 no 145]

Elevation dreams in Islam

Seeing onself in a dream either elevated, ascending or in the sky may refer to an elevation in status or rank (rifah). [Sharh as Sunnah vol 12 p 220]
Based on Prophet Idrees, where the word ‘rafanaa’ is used “And I raised him to a high station” (Wa rafanahu makanan aliy ya) [Surah Maryam (19): 57]

Garden

Seeing a garden in islamic dreams indicates the richness of Islam.
Based on: Abdullah ibn Salaam said: (In a dream) I saw myself in a garden, and there was a pillar in the middle of the garden, and there was a handhold at the top of the pillar. I was asked to climb it. I said, “I cannot.” Then a servant came and lifted up my clothes and I climbed (the pillar), and then got hold of the handhold, and I woke up while still holding it. I narrated that to the Prophet who said, “The garden symbolizes the garden of Islam, and the handhold is the firm Islamic handhold which indicates that you will be adhering firmly to Islam until you die.” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 117 no 142]

Dream interpretation in Islam – Furnishing

Seeing furniture and rugs in a dream may indicate the coming of a time of rest or a break from a period of difficulty or it may imply the attainment of an administrative office which was sought. [Sharh as Sunnah, vol 12 p 221]
Based on: “Reclining on couches lined with brocade and the fruits from the two gardens will be nearby” [Surah ar Rahman (55): 54]

Based on: “They will be on elevated couches. And I have specifically created them virgins who will love husbands of equal age” [Surah al Waaqiah (56): 34-37]

Gifts

Based on: “Indeed you are happy with your gift” [Surah an Naml (27): 36]

Meaning of dreams in Islam: Gold

Being given gold or finding gold may indicate finding a suitable wife or a successful marriage. The symbolism is derived when the Prophet restricted ornaments of gold to women.
Based on: Abdullab ibn Zurrayr related that he heard Ali ibn Abi Talib say that the Prophet took some silk in his right hand and some gold in his left hand. Then he said, “These two are forbidden to the males of my nation” [Sunan of Abu Dawood, vol 3 p 1133 no 4046; an Nasaee and Ahmad]

Hand-hold

Grasping a hand-hold in a islam dream indicates that one will continue to hold firmly to Islam.

Dreams in Islam about Keys

Seeing keys in one s hand, or receiving keys in a dream, indicates the receipt of administrative authority. [Saheeh Muslim: Sharh an Nawawee, vol 8 p 39]
Based on: Abu Huraira said: The Prophet said, “I have been given the keys of eloquent speech and given victory with awe (cast into the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping last night, the keys of the treasures of the earth were brought to me till they were put in my hand.” Abu Huraira added: Allah’s Apostle left (this world) and now you people are carrying those treasures from place to place. [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 106 no 127; Sahih of Muslim, vol 1 p 266 no 1063]

Leg irons

Seeing oneself bound in leg-irons indicates stability in the religion.

Based on: Muhammad ibn Seereen said: “Abu Huraira hated to see neck irons (metallic neck collars) in a dream, and people generally liked to see leg-irons. Leg-irons were said to symbolise one’s constant and form adherence to religion” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 118-9 no 144]
Imam an Nawawee noted that the reason shakles (qayd) on the feet were liked was because they indicate avoiding sin and evil (i.e. the feet are prevented from taking the body to corruption). On the other hand, shackles (ghull) on theneck is one of the characteristics of those in Hell (Quran 13:5, 34:33, 36:8 and 40:71). [Sharh an Nawawee, vol 8 p 28]

Laughing – meaning of dreams in Islam

Dreaming of oneself laughing in a dream may refer to the arrival of good news, good times. [Sharh as Sunnah, vol 12 p 221]

Based on: “Some faces on that day will be bright, laughing and rejoicing at the good news” [Surah Abasa (8): 38-9]

Dream interpretation in Islam – Marriage

Dreaming of oneself getting married may indicate an impeding marriage. If there are no marriage plans at the time of the dream, one may propose to the women shown in the dream.
Based on: Aisha said: Allah’s Apostle said to me, “You were shown to me twice (in my dream) before I married you. I saw an angel carrying you in a silken piece of cloth, and I said to him, ‘Uncover (her),’ and behold, it was you. I said (to myself), ‘If this is from Allah, then it must happen.’Later I dreamt of the angel carrying someone in a silken piece of cloth, and I said (to him), ‘Uncover (her),’ and behold, it was you. I said (to myself), ‘If this is from Allah, then it must happen.’ ” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 115-6 no 140]

Mountains

Seeing mountains in islam dreams means that you are going to Alaska. LOL just joking to see if anyone has made it this far.

Seeing mountains in a dream may indicate the attainment of an administrative post.

Based on: Verses to Prophet David “Indeed, I made the mountains glorify our praises along with David in the evening andin the morning…and I strengthened his dominion” [Surah Saad (38): 18 & 20]

Islamic dreams: Pearls

Dreaming of pearls may indicate Allah’s granting of a mater, male or female, which refer to the young men and women of paradise granted to the believers.
Based on: “And their will be large eyed maidens like hidden pearls” [Surah al Waqiah (56): 22-3]
“And there will be young men of perpetual youth serving them; if you saw the youths, you would think that they were scattered pearls” [Surah al Insaan (76): 19]

Milk

Receiving milk in a dream means that religious knowledge has been granted.
Based on: Abdullah ibn Umar said: Allah’s Apostle said, “While I was sleeping, I was given a bowl full of milk (in the dream) and I drank from it (to my fill) till I noticed its wetness coming out of my limbs. Then I gave the rest of it to ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab.”
The persons sitting around him, asked, “What have you interpreted (about the dream) O Allah’s Apostle?” He said, “It is (religious) knowledge.” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 112 no 135]

Room

In dream interpretation in Islam, Dreaming of oneself in a room or in different rooms, may refer to being safefrom what one fears.
Based on: “They will reside in rooms in peace and security” [Surah Saba (34): 37]

Ruler in islamic dreams:

Being addressed by a ruler in a dream may refer to the attainment of a high post or rank. [Sharh as Sunnah vol 12 p 220]
“When he (the ruler) spoke to him, he said, ‘Indeed, today you are considered an established, trustworthy person’” [Surah Yusuf (12): 54]

Rope – islam dream

Seeing a rope in a dream and grabbing hold of it, may indicate one’s adherance to the covenant with God and Islam. [Sharh as Sunnah, vol 12 p 220]
Based on: “Hold on firmly to the rope of Allah and do not become divided” [Surah al Imran (3): 103]

Sexual Intercourse

Dream interpretation in islam of sexual intercourse are fundamentally satanic and therefore not interpretable. However, they may only be classified as good dreams if the people involved are married.
If a person has an orgasm while dreaming, taking a complete ritual bath (ghusl) is obligatory on that individual to attain the state of purity (taharaah) necessary to make formal prayers.
Anas ibn Malik reported that Umm Sulaym came to the Prophet while he was with Aisha and asked him, “O Messenger of Allah, when a woman sees and experiences in a dream what a ma does, what should she do?”. Aisha remarked, “O Umm Sulaym, you have humiliated women, May your right hand be covered in dust”. The Prophet said to Aisha, “May your right hand be covered in dust”. He then said to Umm Sulaym, “O Umm Sulaym, she should take ghusl if she sees any discharge” [Sahih of Muslim, vol 1 p 178 no 607]

Shirt dreams in Islam

Wearing a shirt in a dream indicates adherences to the religion. The longer the shirt, the greater commitment to Islam.
Abu Said ul Khudri said: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “While I was sleeping, I saw (in a dream) the people being displayed before me, wearing shirts, some of which (were so short that it) reached as far as their breasts and some reached below that.
Then ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab was shown to me and he was wearing a shirt which he was dragging (behind him).” They asked.
What have you interpreted (about the dream), O Allah’s Apostle?” He said, “The religion.” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 113-4 no 137]

Ship

Seeing a ship in islamic dreams may mean success or escape. [Sharh as Sunnah, vol 12 p 220]
Based on: Prophet Noah “Then I saved him and those with him in the shop, and made it a lesson for all of the worlds” [Surah al Ankaboot (29): 15]

Sword in Islam dream:

Seeing a sword in a dream refers to one’s companions and supporters coming to their aid. [Saheeh Muslim: Sharh an Nawawee, vol 8 p 38]
Based on: Abu Musa said: The Prophet said, “I saw in a dream that I waved a sword and it broke in the middle, and behold, that symbolized the casualties the believers suffered on the Day (of the battle) of Uhud. Then I waved the sword again, and it became better than it had ever been before, and behold, that symbolized the Conquest (of Mecca) which Allah brought about and the gathering of the believers.” [Sahih of Bukhari, vol 9 p 133-4 no 164]
