Patna: Islam is a wonderful religion and Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is the greatest person in the history of mankind. This claim was not surfaced by a Muslim but said by a well-renowned Hindu scholar in India. He also said that for learning and understanding Islam, Prophet’s (Peace Be Upon Him) life and teachings are the best source.

The Hindu scholar, Swami Lakshmi Shankaracharya, stated, “We are talking about Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and we should keep it in our mind that he is the greatest individual in history. If anyone wants to know about Islam, one should judge Islam by Prophet’s (Peace Be Upon Him) life and his teachings.”

While delivering a lecture on “Seerat-un-Nabi” (Prophet’s Upright Character) conference held here last month, Swami who is also the founder of Jan Ekta Manch, said that peace and humanity is the core teaching of Islam. But, unfortunately, most of the Muslims don’t follow Islamic teachings and they hardly learn from the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

He urged, “It is the duty of every Muslim according to their religion to save and protect the humanity, Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) always forgave his enemies and showed patience when he was harmed by others, this was his moral teachings which made Islam an international religion.”

He cited the stories of “Fatah-e-Makkah” (Makkah Conquer) when enemies of Islam were given complete liberty despite being made prisoners of war by the Muslims. On Jihad, he clarified that it has nothing to do with innocent killings and terrorism. The first permission to take to arms was accorded in verse 22:39 of the Holy Quran, which reads: “Permission (to take up arms) is hereby given to those who attacked, because they have been wronged.” The Holy Quran further says: “Fight, for the sake of Allah with those that fight against you, but do not be aggressive.”

He also cited extensively from the Veda and Gita to authenticate that Islam’s endeavor to establish peace is not different from what Sanatan scriptures bid.

It is interesting to mention that Swami was initially very critical about Islam and its concept of Jihad. He considered Islam to be the root cause of global terrorism. This thinking had cropped up in his mind because of his study of negative materials on Islam and behavior of some Muslims. Then he wrote a book “The History of Islamic Terrorism.” However, on being urged to study Islam from its original sources Swami read The Holy Quran from cover to cover besides the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Finally, he realized that he misunderstood Islam. He accepted his mistake and decided to write a rejoinder of such negative materials in a book titled, “Islam – Aatank ya Aadarsh” in Hindi or “Islam – Terror or Ideal Path” in English. In this book, he clarifies the real meaning of Jihad and how Islam is the religion of peace. He concludes that Muslims were enjoined to fight in self-defense to establish peace, without resorting to terror.

The conference was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bihar, and group’s chief of the region, Nayyaruzzaman, presided over the conference. He emphasized on the acquisition of true knowledge of Islam and practicing it as was done by the Prophet’s companions.

Are we hypocritical lovers of Prophet??

The concept of the religion of Islam is to abide by the book of ALLAH i.e. Quran and follow the way of life (Sunnah) of prophet. Life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the realistic example of ALLAH’s words i.e. Quran. So perfect was the model that which Muhammad presented, it encompassed all the components of human life to perfection beyond compare. He was an orphan; hardworking shepherd; obedient son; sacrificing nephew; loving and concerned father; compassionate grandfather; devoted husband; noble citizen; courteous neighbor; honest tradesman; trustworthy individual; guardian of orphans and widows; messiah of down-trodden; tolerant preacher never offending belief of others; true social reformer and abolisher of injustice of any kind; pioneer of freedom and equality; merciful forgiver; able and just ruler; advocator of best treatment to one and all especially non believers who come under protection; and the first human to give women equal status in society and the right of full possession of property and inheritance from parents, sons, brothers and sisters and so on. An exemplary visionary who relentlessly worked to bring the mankind close to his creator (ALLAH) thereby on a common platform rising above, religion, sex, cast, creed, colour, race, social status, etc.

Who can better pursue the philosophy of Prophet than his own companions as they witnessed him practicing perfectly what he preached. They were never impolite or offensive. They respected and honored him more than themselves. Let me quote an example of a companion, Khubaib (may ALLAH be pleased with him) at the last minute of his life, the pagans asked him: “Don’t you wish that you were spared and Muhammad PBUH got this punishment? Would you not like that you were resting comfortably in your home, while he was killed in your place?” From the man who was about to die because he had accepted the Message brought by Muhammad PBUH came with this reply:

“By ALLAH, I cannot even imagine that a thorn should prick the foot of Muhammad PBUH while I rest in my home.”

On the occasion of treaty of Hudaibia, Quraish (the Prophet’s tribe) sent Orwa Ibn Masud to negotiate with the Prophet in the Hudaibia area; he was greatly impressed by how the companions treated the Prophet. He said,

“I have visited the kings of Persia, Rome and Abysinia, but I have not seen any leader more revered and respected by his people than Muhammad. If he ordered them to do anything, they do it without delay. If he performs Wudhu (washing up for prayer) they all seek the remainder of the water he used. They never look at him in the eye, out of respect.”

This is how the Prophet was treated by his companions. He was ALLAH’s Messenger who possessed great qualities and the best of conduct ever.

There are three signs which indicate that a person has tasted the sweetness of faith.

1) That he loves ALLAH and His Prophet more than anything else.
2) He loves everyone solely for the sake of ALLAH.
3) After accepting Islam he hates going back to non-belief as much as he hates going into the fire.” [Bukhari and Muslim].

This kind of incredible relationship with the prophet has to be for two reasons

• Because he is the core of the entire religion
• Because he has set examples for us not just for admiration but emulation.

What is the relation of an average metropolitan Muslim and prophet? We no doubt adore our beloved Prophet Muhammad, to whom we even desire to sacrifice our lives. However, it is a real pity that our minds are corrupted and we are subjugated by the external environment. If we really love our Prophet, we should have followed him by abstaining from the things he ostracized. The Sunnah is diminishing from our lives, our actions are way beyond what Muhammad (pbuh) had envisaged for his treasured ummah.

Islam is a perfect religion and every solution to any problem is described in the Holy Quran and very evidently practiced by Prophet Muhammad. In the context of blasphemy against our prophet, our brothers rightly protested, banned products, and few laid downed their lives. Let us analyze how our Prophet responded to mischief mongers and evil doers. Everyone is aware of the narrative about the woman, who always put her garbage on the road whenever Prophet Muhammad was passing. Frankly, I was upset when I first listened to such incidence. But later, as a Muslim, I reasoned that I have to do what Prophet did. i.e. follow him. My Prophet never uttered a word to the woman, just moved on with a smile. Later on when she fell sick, the Prophet was the first to visit her in spite of her behaviour. This very gesture moved her heart and she embraced Islam.

Recall the event at Taif, when the Prophet was stoned. The angel Jibrael AS appeared and offered to crush the people between the two mountains, but still, even in that condition, the Prophet cared about the people and replied:

‘No, I hope that these people will one day come to worship only Allah and Him alone’?

and did not let angel do so. Soon the Taif’s offspring’s entered into realm of Islam.

In this world, there are still millions of people who are living in darkness and ignorance. It becomes gravely important to enlighten the mass (by dawah) to the message of our Prophet in best possible manner. The use of social networking sites and internet will largely support this cause. Facebook has provided us a medium to interact with everyone throughout the world and where the Prophet is being criticized, it is like a blessing in disguise for us. As every non-Muslim there in, is putting forward his perspective. We ought to answer them and clear their misconception appropriately accompanied with logical facts.

Hence, I request Muslims to broaden their horizon of thought and actions. Work earnestly to become better Muslims by incorporating values of Sunnah. Seek an opportunity in every adversity to spread the message of Muhammad to those who criticize Islam. Verily ALLAH knows our intentions and actions are well judged. Expect nothing but HIS appeasement alone!

How should a husband treat his wife?

Look how Islam values women and how an Islam scholars perspective of women was back in 18th century, way before the womens basic rights were accepted around in the other countries of the world.

” Oh my friend, You have to be gentle, understanding and friendly to your wife. you have to talk with her in a polite and soft way and sweetness of words.

Our beloved Prophet[pbuh] said: The best of people is the one who is beneficial and helpful to his wife and his house members”.

when you found her sad and worried, you need to say you love her and you need to cheer her up with compassion as she might feeling depressed or hopeless at that time at home. You should be her best friend, her support in her troubles.

You should help her with the education of the children. The children will not give her a break and rest as they whine, cry, and ask for things day and night. If you help her, her Lord Allah will help you too.

About the mistakes she did, you must not get angry or say rude words. Even when you have to give her silent treatment, you should cut it after one day. when you discover a bad habit of hers or a behavior you did not like about her, you should find the fault in you and say:

“if I was a better person and had better behavior, she would be nicer, too”.

When she gets angry, you have to be silent. When you do not respond her, she would regret and apologize to you.

When she is helping, supporting and serving you, you should pray for her and you should thank and praise Allah since your wife, who is a good match for you, is a bounty by God that could never be thanked enough for.

You have to treat your wife in a way that she needs to think “my husband loves me more than anyone.”

About the household and financial issues, you have to consult her and talk together. You should not bother your wife with your other big troubles and issues. You need to ignore her bad behaviors unless they are forbidden by Allah, that is, unless she is committing a sin.

You have to hide her secret faults and her private matters from everybody. You should make compliments , appropriate jokes, and create entartainment for your wife.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad[pbuh] would compliment, mingle and make jokes with his wife. He was the ultimate gentlemen and the most refined elegant person towards his wife. Once he had a race with his wife and his wife won, in the second time, he won.

Mild and pleasant conversations will bond you with your wife. You need to read each other about the basics and pillars of Islam, and other the necessary knowledge and sicences. You have to provide for her whatever you have for yourself in terms of clothing, food, and so on.

You should not reflect your troubles, problems, your sadness, enemies and your debts to her becuase even if she overcome these problems, these troubles will leave marks in her soul and affects her inner peace.

You should always say heartful of good praying to her face and her behind not ever bad prayers since she is always there for you and serving you day and night. She prepares your bread, your meal, mend and wash your clothess. She is the protector and manager of your dignity, honor, your properties, and your children . She is your best friend, your only support as you are to her, she is your love as you are her love.

How to make your Wife happy ?

Beautiful Reception

After returning from work, school, travel, or whatever has separated you:

  • Begin with a good greeting.
  • Start with Assalamau ‘Aliaykum and a smile. Salam is a sunnah and a du’aa for her as well.
  • Shake her hand and leave bad news for later!

Sweet Speech and Enchanting Invitations

  • Choose words that are positive and avoid negative ones.
  • Give her your attention when you speak of she speaks.
  • Speak with clarity and repeat words if necessary until she understands.
  • Call her with the nice names that she likes, e.g. my sweet-heart, honey, saaliha, etc.

Friendliness and Recreation

  • Spend time talking together.
  • Spread to her goods news.
  • Remember your good memories together.

Games and Distractions

  • Joking around & having a sense of humor.
  • Playing and competing with each other in sports or whatever.
  • Taking her to watch permissible (halal) types of entertainment.
  • Avoiding prohibited (haram) things in your choices of entertainment.

Assistance in the Household

  • Doing what you as an individual can/like to do that helps out, especially if she is sick or tired.
  • The most important thing is making it obvious that he appreciates her hard work.

Consultation (Shurah)

  • Specifically in family matters.
  • Giving her the feeling that her opinion is important to you.
  • Studying her opinion carefully.
  • Be willing to change an opinion for hers if it is better.
  • Thanking her for helping him with her opinions.

Visiting Others

  • Choosing well raised people to build relations with. There is a great reward in visiting relatives and pious people. (Not in wasting time while visiting!)
  • Pay attention to ensure Islamic manners during visits.
  • Not forcing her to visit whom she does not feel comfortable with.

Conduct During Travel

  • Offer a warm farewell and good advice.
  • Ask her to pray for him.
  • Ask pious relatives and friends to take care of the family in your absence.
  • Give her enough money for what she might need.
  • Try to stay in touch with her whether by phone, e-mail, letters, etc..
  • Return as soon as possible.
  • Bring her a gift!
  • Avoid returning at an unexpected time or at night.
  • Take her with you if possible.

Financial Support

  • The husband needs to be generous within his financial capabilities. He should not be a miser with his money (nor wasteful).
  • He gets rewards for all what he spends on her sustenance even for a small piece of bread that he feeds her by his hand (hadeith).
  • He is strongly encouraged to give to her before she asks him.

Smelling Good and Physical Beautification

  • Following the Sunnah in removing hair from the groin and underarms.
  • Always being clean and neat.
  • Put on perfume for her.

Intercourse

  • It is obligatory to do it habitually if you have no excuse (sickness, etc.)
  • Start with “Bismillah” and the authentic du’a.
  • Enter into her in the proper place only (not the anus).
  • Begin with foreplay including words of love.
  • Continue until you have satisfied her desire.
  • Relax and joke around afterwards.
  • Avoid intercourse during the monthly period because it haram
  • Do what you can to avoid damaging her level of Hiyaa (shyness and modesty) such as taking your clothes together instead of asking her to do it first while he is looking on.
  • Avoid positions during intercourse that may harm her such as putting pressure on her chest and blocking her breath, especially if you are heavy.
  • Choose suitable times for intercourse and be considerate as sometimes she maybe sick or exhausted.

Guarding Privacy

  • Avoid disclosing private information such as bedroom secrets, her personal problems and other private matters.

Aiding in the Obedience to Allah

  • Wake her up in the last third of the night to pray “Qiyam-ul-Layl” (extra prayer done at night with long sujood and ruku’ua).
  • Teach her what you know of the Qur’an and its tafseer.
  • Teach her “Dhikr” (ways to remember Allah by the example of the prophet) in the morning and evening.
  • Encourage her to spend money for the sake of Allah such as in a charity sale.
  • Take her to Hajj and Umrah when you can afford to do so.

Showing Respect for her Family and Friends

  • Take her to visit her family and relatives, especially her parents.
  • Invite them to visit her and welcome them.
  • Give them presents on special occasions.
  • Help them when needed with money, effort, etc..
  • Keep good relations with her family after her death if she dies first. Also in this case the husband is encouraged to follow the sunnah and keep giving what she used to give in her life to her friends and family.

(Islamic) Training & Admonition

This includes:

  • The basics of Islam
  • Her duties and rights
  • Reading and writing
  • Encouraging her to attend lessons and halaqahs
  • Islamic rules (ahkam) related to women
  • Buying Islamic books and tapes for the home library

Admirable Jealousy

  • Ensure she is wearing proper hijab before leaving house.
  • Restrict free mixing with non-mahram men.
  • Avoiding excess jealousy.

Examples of this are:

1- Analyzing every word and sentence she says and overloading her speech by meanings that she did    not mean
2- Preventing her from going out of the house when the reasons are just.
3- Preventing her from answering the phone.

Patience and Mildness

  • Problems are expected in every marriage so this is normal. What is wrong is excessive responses and magnifying problems until a marital breakdown.
  • Anger should be shown when she exceeds the boundaries of Allah SWT, by delaying prayers, backbiting, watching prohibited scenes on TV, etc..
  • Forgive the mistakes she does to you.

Correcting her Mistakes

  • First, implicit and explicit advice several times.
  • Then by turning your back to her in bed (displaying your feelings). Note that this does not include leaving the bedroom to another room, leaving the house to another place, or not talking with her.
  • The last solution is lightly hitting (when allowable) her. In this case, the husband should consider the following:

He should know that sunnah is to avoid beating as the Prophet PBUH never beat a woman or a servant.

  • He should do it only in extreme cases of disobedience, e.g. refusing intercourse without cause frequently, constantly not praying on time, leaving the house for long periods of time without permission nor refusing to tell him where she had been, etc..
  • It should not be done except after having turned from her bed and discussing the matter with her as mentioned in Qur’an .
  • He should not hit her hard injuring her, or hit her on her face or on sensitive parts of her body.
  • He should avoid shaming her such as by hitting her with a shoe, etc.

Pardoning and Appropriate Censure

  • Accounting her only for larger mistakes.
  • Forgive mistakes done to him but account her for mistakes done in Allah’s rights, e.g. delaying prayers, etc..
  • Remember all the good she does whenever she makes a mistake.
  • Remember that all humans err so try to find excuses for her such as maybe she is tired, sad, having her monthly cycle or that her commitment to Islam is growing.
  • Avoid attacking her for the bad cooking of the food as the Prophet PBUH never blamed any of his wives for this. If he likes the food, he eats and if he doesn’t then he does not eat and does not comment.
  • Before declaring her to be in error, try other indirect approaches that are more subtle than direct accusations
  • Escape from using insults and words that may hurt her feelings.
  • When it becomes necessary to discuss a problem wait until you have privacy from others.
  • Waiting until the anger has subsided a bit can help to keep a control on your words.

Non-Vegetarian food Makes Muslims Violent

Science tell us that whatever one eats, it has an effect on one’s behavior. Why then, does Islam allow Muslims to eat non-vegetarian food, since eating of animals could make a person violent and ferocious?

Answer:

1. Only eating of herbivorous animals allowed . I agree that, what a person eats has an effect on his behaviour. This is one of the reasons why Islam prohibits the eating of carnivorous animals like lion, tiger, leopard, etc. who are violent and ferocious. The consumption of the meat of such animals would probably make a person violent and ferocious.

Islam only allows the eating of herbivorous animals like cow, goat, sheep, etc. that are peaceful and docile. Muslims eat peaceful and docile animals because Muslims are peace loving and non-violent people.

2. The Qur’an says Prophet prohibits what is bad The Qur’an says:

“The Prophet commands them what is just and prohibits what is evil”.

“He allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them what is bad (and impure),” [Al-Qur’an   7: 157]

“So take what the Messenger assigns to you and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you.” [Al-Qur’an   59: 7]

For a Muslim, the Prophet’s statement is sufficient to convince him that Allah does not wish humans to eat some kinds of meat while allowing some other kinds.

3. Hadith  of  Mohammad  (pbuh)  prohibi-ting  eating  of  carnivorous animals According to various authentic Ahadith narrated in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim including hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas in Sahih Muslim, Book of hunting and slaughter, Hadith No. 4752 and Sunan Ibn-I-Majah chapter 13 Hadith no. 3232 to 3234, the Holy Prophet (pbuh) prohibited the eating of:

(i)    Wild animals with canine teeth, i.e. meat eating carnivorous animals. These are animals belonging to the cat families such as lion, tiger, cats, dogs, wolfs, hyenas, etc.

(ii)   Certain rodents like mice, rats, rabbits with claws, etc.

(iii)  Certain reptiles like snakes, alligators, etc.

(iv) Birds of prey with talons or claws, like vultures, eagle, crows, owl, etc.

There  is  no  scientific  evidence  that  proves  beyond  doubt  that  eating  non-vegetarian food makes one violent.

In The name of Allah,The Most Merciful,The Most gracious

“Do not please anyone by angering Allaah?”

What is the status of the hadeeth,

Do not please anyone by angering Allaah, do not thank anyone for the blessings of Allaah, and do not condemn anyone for that which Allaah did not give you. For the provision of Allaah does not come to you because of anyone’s efforts and it is not diverted from you because of anyone’s hatred. By His fairness and justice, Allaah has connected peace and joy to contentment and certain faith, and He has connected worry and distress to discontentment.

Praise be to Allaah.

This hadeeth was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 10/215.

Al-Haythami said:

It was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, and its isnaad includes Khaalid ibn Yazeed al-‘Umari, who was accused of fabricating hadeeth.

Majmaa’ al-Zawaa’id, 4/71.

It was also narrated – via a different isnaad – by Abu Na’eem in al-Hilyah (5/106) and by al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Eemaan, 1/221.

Its isnaad includes ‘Atiyah al-‘Awfi, who is da’eef (weak), and the comments of the scholars concerning him have been quoted above (p. 78); and it includes Muhammad ibn Marwaan al-Saddi, who is matrook al-hadeeth (his hadeeth is not to be accepted).

Yahyaa ibn Ma’een said:

he is not thiqah (trustworthy), and on one occasion he said: he is nothing.

Ibraaheem said:

he is kadhdhaab (a liar).

Al-Sa’di said,

he is dhaahib (i.e., his hadeeth is not accepted).

Al-Nasaa’i, Abu Haatim al-Raazi and al-Azdi said: he is matrook al hadeeth (his hadeeth is not to be accepted).

Al-Bukhaari said:

his hadeeth should not be written down. And on one occasion he said: they did not say anything concerning him.

Ibn Hibbaan said:

his hadeeth is not to be written down, and it is haraam to use his hadeeth as evidence.

See Meezaan al-I’tidaal, 6/328; al-Du’afaa’ wa’l-Matrookeen, 3/98

It was also narrated by Hannaad al-Sirri in al-Zuhd, 1/304; and by al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Eemaan, 1/221, with an isnaad which is mawqoof and stops at ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him).
